Привет, дорогие друзья. Рождество в США, как и в Западной Европе, отмечается ежегодно 25 декабря. Этот праздник с нетерпением ждут дети и взрослые. Это и неудивительно, ведь атмосфера праздника присутствует во всем — украшенные улицы и дома, ожидание Санта-Клауса и подарков, обилие вкусных праздничных блюд.

Все это создает атмосферу волшебства и ожидания чего-то волнующего.

Одна из самых ярких рождественских традиций – семейный ужин в канун праздника (Christmas Eve), который проводится 24 декабря. За столом собираются все родственники. Конечно, все обмениваются подарками. Есть даже такое понятие как «Тайный Санта» (Secret Santa).

Суть этой церемонии в том, что все по очереди достают из шляпы по одной бумажке, т.е. проводится жребий, на котором определяется, кто кому дарит подарок. При этом имя «Санты» остается секретом для того, кто получает презент.

• Woman: Yes I am. It’s a big deal in my family.

• Woman: The whole family comes together on the evening of the 24th of December and has a big feast.
• Man: What about a tree?
• Woman: We also have a pine tree in the living room which we decorate during the day of the 24th. It’s usually quite big with lots of shiny ornaments.
• Man: That’s really interesting. My family doesn’t celebrate Christmas. What else do you do?
• Woman: We also go to church together for the midnight mass.
• Man: Do you also put presents under the tree?
• Woman: Yes, lots of presents. They are all individually wrapped in colorful paper and brought by Santa Claus.
• Man: Santa Claus isn’t real, right?
• Woman: No, he isn’t. It’s part of the Christmas tradition to tell children that Santa is bringing the presents.
